Had a great half session this morning with Kaleb in the studio…we’ll finish the outdoor portion when it’s not so hot and windy! I have had a long run of gorgeous girls this summer but no boys! I think boys just tend to wait longer and are busy in the summers…but hopefully these images will spur some senior guys to book their appointments soon! I’m out of summer dates and will be booking for the fall now…if you have days off school, book now.
Kaleb was seriously the best to work with…he has a great smile and could pull out the serious face too. Love it when the guys can relax and not take themselves so serious…and Kaleb was perfect. I’m looking forward to getting to do his outdoor session out at their farm!

My nephew came into the studio the other day to do his 6 year pictures so he can send them out with invitations! It’s always fun to get family in the studio but their images always go to the bottom of the pile…not fair but in the busy season, it’s just what happens! My sister is (hopefully) patiently waiting for her daughter’s one year pictures to be ready from way back in the beginning of June! If they hang with me, though, it’s worth their patience.
Enjoy this sneak peek (especially his Nana who was bugging me about these tonight and made me feel way too guilty to wait another day to get these up!).

Aww…just fair warning, the following images will make your ovaries tingle. You will want another baby. You will think, “Babies are so precious.” You will forget that babies this age keep mommas up at night and you will forget they turn into 2 year olds. Seriously, it doesn’t get more intoxicating than a sweet little newborn like this…it took the whole drive home from Dodge City for me to realize I really am ok with the three we have and that adding another one would seriously have my husband questioning my sanity. Thanks Tara and Tyler for letting me snuggle your little miss for a while today…she is absolutely precious! CONGRATULATIONS!

Had a perfect morning for shooting outdoors yesterday…the cloud cover and wind kept us from getting too hot until after 10 a.m! We trekked around Dodge City and then ran over to the studio in Montezuma to finish up. Couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful person to work with…inside and out. We had a great time and I’m hoping you enjoy this sneak peek!

What I missed about being out in the world when I was staying home with the kids was interacting with adults and meeting new people. I really missed it. I knew as my kids got older I would find something to do because I just needed that social interaction every day, and now, I can say I have found the perfect career for me because with each session I am introduced to another person or family who fills that void I’d had staying out at the farm. The absolute best part of my job is meeting new people and getting the chance to work with them. My grandma used to tell me I could live in the biggest apartment complex in New York and I’d still know everyone there…and those who know me would probably agree.
Today’s session brought new friends through my door, again. I love hearing, “That was so much fun!” followed by a hug…and that’s how this session ended today. What a blessing to be able to have a job you never have to ‘work’ at and get to hang out with new and old friends all the time. I know I’m rambling tonight but I’m tired and overwhelmed with gratitude for what God has blessed me with in this grand adventure.
Miss Katie is beautiful, funny, and has the greatest spray of freckles across her nose…I absolutely love what I’ve seen from this session so far. Enjoy!

I think these two picked the hottest day of the summer to get married! I sat down on the pavement to get a shot and felt like I sat on a hot stove! Thank goodness for a beautiful, air-conditioned church, though, or we all would have been melting. The groomsmen thanked me a few times when I told them they didn’t have to wear their jackets for the pictures outside…with beads of sweat rolling down their cheeks.
I found the ceremony to be captivating with all the traditions and family participation. I had never seen a coin exchange or the lasso ceremony so I watched with amazing curiosity…what beautiful traditions to pass along through the generations. Navid made a beautiful bride as well! Thanks for letting me be part of your day!!

I got to spend the afternoon today with a beautiful little 5 day old girl. Who can resist all that hair?? Newborn sessions typically take longer than other sessions I do just because I like to allow plenty of time for the baby to nurse and time to clean up messes and time to cuddle and time to clean up other messes…every newborn session follows in line with every other one. But there is no amount of newborn baby mess that isn’t worth cleaning up to be able to get precious images like these. In just a couple of weeks, Mom and Dad will look at these photos and will hardly believe their little bundle was actually this tiny. It really is that fleeting.

I don’t know where all the boys are but these senior ladies sure are making my job easy and fun! I love how even though I use the same backgrounds and posing and props (if any!), each session is so unique and all about the senior. I love to discover something new each time I shoot in a repeat location but it can be a challenge at times. Shooting at different times of day helps vary what those outdoor locations look like and the kind of light they produce. That is one thing you can look for when selecting a photographer for your own needs…how does he/she use light to create drama or set the mood. Does the photographer get varied lighting or is it all the same? Do the shadows in the image add to or detract from the image? Lighting really is the “magic” element that takes it from a snapshot to a beautiful portrait.
Ashley brought her mom and sister…and her grandmother all the way from Mexico…to her session. Even though I could not communicate with Ashley’s abuela (thanks to Dora, I know that word!)…it was fun to see her reactions to some of the things I had Ashley doing. I could tell when she thought I had her doing something silly or strange…and when she thought it was beautiful. Ashley is a gorgeous girl with amazing colored eyes…I love the unexpected features and her light hazel-colored eyes seemed to pop out against her skin tone. Makes this brown hair/brown-eyed girl a teensy bit jealous!

This was my third session last Friday…and I just realized this morning I forgot to blog it! YIKES! I never forget to blog!! Of course, I never do 3 sessions in one day either. I am so sorry I forgot..but hope the wait is worth it! I loved that this family came dressed in red, white and blue…a bright, clean and patriotic theme for family pictures. Love it! We spent time both in the studio and out in a grassy field and got some beautiful images. I hope you enjoy the sneak peek!

This morning I had a blast hanging out with Kaitlyn and her mom…we did some trekking across Montezuma again and about melted in the heat! Who knew it was supposed to get so hot? I did get to try a couple of new setups with Kaitlyn, which is always fun. She had some fun ideas for backgrounds and was willing to try any of my ideas, too. That makes for a great combination! I think she’ll love the results as we got some really amazing shots from this session today…here’s a quick peek!
