Evangeline|2011 Senior Rep {Kansas Senior Photographer}

Evangeline is my last senior rep this year…and we got a bit of a late start but she’s special to me and I’m so excited to work with her. (Wow! That’s what we call a run-on sentence, but this is my blog so I’ll break the rules if I want!) Miss E was a little nervous about stepping in front of the camera which is actually completely normal! Almost everyone is nervous as we get started because no one knows what to expect…and none of my clients thus far have been trained models. My job is to make you LOOK like you could model. I have spent a LOT of time in the last year or so working on posing and studying what makes a good pose and how to flatter anyone’s body size and shape. So, mostly you just have to trust me when you come in for your sitting…and understand that sometimes awkward looks elegant!

Evangeline has a natural beauty…and is musically gifted. You should hear her play guitar and sing…all I’ve got to say is Taylor Swift has nothing on Evangeline. I don’t know how she’s going to get there or when, but I fully believe we will see Miss E standing on a stage, sold out to a full arena someday!! And I will be selling these images to whichever magazine wants them when that day comes…haha, just kidding, Van! (I’ll only sell to the one with the deepest pockets!)

Just as we were getting ready to call it a day, a GORGEOUS rainbow peaked out from the clouds so I made Van stand on the highway to get this shot! (Remember the part I said about trusting me?)

Shaelyn Graduates! {Kansas Family Photographer}

Miss Shaelyn has been so special to our family over the last several years…and then she was an awesome senior rep for me last year. It’s so hard to believe this little girl I first met when I was teaching her swimming lessons 10 years ago is ready to head off to college. I had to miss her actual graduation because it was the same day as my brother’s graduation from KU…and the whole family was in town and wanting family pictures. They were so awesome and flexible with me after I realized the two graduations would fall on the same day…we ended up with a cool, overcast morning with rain threatening but it held off for us to get some gorgeous images in my in-laws backyard. I love shooting back there under a canopy of trees with beautiful flowers around every corner…doesn’t sound like southwest Kansas does it?

Dina braved the chilly wind yesterday for a few outdoor images, but we spent most of our 2 hours in studio. We kept each other laughing (though I’m still not sure if she was laughing AT me or WITH me half the time!)…and got some great senior images in the process! Hope you enjoy your sneak peek!

Yesterday was one of those fall days that makes you want to stay in and read a good book…drizzly, gray and just a little chilly. It’s also the kind of day, if the drizzle lets up, that produces that soft, beautiful light we photographers love! There is no harsh sun casting shadows in all the wrong places and making us work for great places to shoot! We could have taken Anna’s senior pictures about anywhere and the light would have been great. In fact, that’s what we did! We found old buildings, a pile of milo, the elevators…wherever we could find a spot! It also helps when your senior trusts you and likes the ideas you have!!! Thanks so much to Anna and Lexi (the most awesome reflector holder ever!) and Diane for coming out to Copeland…hope you enjoy the sneak peek.

We had great temperatures last night for our shoot, but we did have to battle some wind. It didn’t stop us though…Miss Naura was a natural and pulled off the wind-blown look effortlessly! We shot around her hometown and then tried to beat it back here for some sunset images but that sun sank way too fast!! We are going to try for those another night. But we did get some beautiful images in studio and had a great time…I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!

We booked Wade’s pictures way back in the summer hoping to get in some of the fall colors around their farm. I was worried the early frosts would leave us with some pretty blah landscape but those beautiful, old cottonwoods came through and provided some amazing backdrops. Wade and his mom took me out to one of their farm ponds where I could have spent hours and hours just shooting and taking in every detail. I absolutely loved it!

When Mindy got here yesterday, we realized we are kind of related in a round about way! See if you can follow along…her grandma’s sister was married to an uncle of my father-in-law (for those that know us: Uncle Johnny’s wife’s sister is the grandma here!). HA! Usually people hear our last name and ask if we are related to _________ Jantz (fill in the blank with any Jantz you know) and the answer is almost always “no.” There are several Jantz families in the area but Travis’ family is not related to most of them.

At any rate, we had a GORGEOUS morning yesterday for shooting all around Copeland. Sometimes I’m sure our little town must think I’m crazy with all the places I shoot around. But my favorite little building in Copeland is falling apart, has broken glass and half-dead trees all around it, and probably never even gets noticed unless we are out there shooting! It serves as storage for someone’s stuff but it has the most colorful bricks which in turn create a deep, dramatic background for all sorts of images. We also shot around our elevator, some of the beautiful trees in town, and in my in-law’s back yard. It was a great morning and I had a wonderful time with Mindy and her mom and grandma. Thanks for coming all the way to little ol’ Copeland!

Kellyn|'10 DCHS {Kansas Senior Photographer}

I don’t know how I got so lucky to get such great seniors to work with this year…but I did. Every one of them has been amazing. Last night was no exception…Kellyn is beautiful inside and out. We shot around the depot (my favorite place to shoot in Dodge), found a great cluster of beautiful old trees, and even stopped on the way back to my studio for some shots with an old pickup (I’d so love to buy it and have it here!). I met up with Miss Tara last night in Dodge after rescheduling from Monday because of yucky weather. After about 5 minutes of shooting, I said, “Do I know you from somewhere else?” (Side note…I always think I know everyone from somewhere! I’m usually mistaken!!) She said I seemed familiar, too so I asked if she was related to some of our *favorite* people here in town and the light bulb went off! She is the niece of Travis’s second family, the Trickey’s. We had a ball running around Dodge City and then coming back here for some studio work. Tara is set to graduate in December so we got her Senior pictures done just in time…enjoy this sneak peek!

Vianney|Cimarron High '10 {Kansas Senior Photographer}

Since the weather wasn’t cooperating (AGAIN! Come back fall!), we did only the studio half of Vianney’s senior pictures yesterday. We plan to meet up again in a week or two to finish her session…but I think we got a great start yesterday! She was so fun to work with and had some ideas of her own which is always fun to try.
