Sometimes in life, you realize exactly how old you really are. Tuesday was one of those times…working with Dakota was awesome, but I remember when he was born! I grew up just down the street from his family, and it doesn’t seem like 18 years ago we were all excited to hear he’d been born. But it has been 18 years…and Dakota is all grown up and ready for his last year of high school. We did studio on Tuesday and scheduled an outdoor shoot for later which I’m looking forward to as they have some awesome locations picked out. Hope you enjoy this sneak peek for now!

We had a great morning Saturday for Jonae’s senior pictures…and she even brought along her brother, sister and boyfriend for a few images! I love this shot of her with her siblings…what’s more, they were so awesome with each other! Her little brother is a ham…and can I just say I hope I get to photograph her sister in a few years when it’s her turn to graduate? What a gorgeous family!! What can be cuter than a one-year-old in these lace rompers? Seriously! T was nothing but adorable…and loved wearing the headbands!! Just doesn’t get more fun than playing dress up for an hour in the morning!!!

Carter was working on Mr. O this week at school…but I don’t think this little guy was part of the rhyme they were learning! At any rate, I’ve photographed O’s brother and sister a couple of times so it was a real treat to my hands on him! We decided his brother will be excited about seeing the red couch in O’s pictures since he was pretty impressed with it at my open house. We got some great smiles and giggles out of him yesterday and tried a few different things…he loved that hat, as long as it wasn’t on his head! Enjoy!

Things are going to slow down around here just a little bit…I had to mark out several days where I could have taken sessions so I can get caught up on wedding albums and senior sessions before heading into the busy fall/Christmas season. I still have five great sessions coming up in the next two weeks which is a more normal pace for me than I’ve been keeping for the last month or so! The first two weeks of September I crossed out completely so I’ll share other things…but no sessions. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you when you come for you daily fix of cuteness and all you get is a closeup of a bee’s behind!

But before we get there…I had another stunning senior girl yesterday afternoon. I loved her sense of style and the variety of outfits she brought along. We spent most of the session indoors as it was nearly 100 degrees outside! We did venture out at the end with a prom dress and cowgirl boots…I’ll have to do another sneak peek later to show off some of those!! Thanks for making the trek down…and for letting me meet your mom and grandmother! You were awesome to work with!!

Danielle|Miss Rodeo Kansas 2010

Yesterday brought a whole new opportunity through the studio! Miss Rodeo Kansas came in for some head shots to compete in the Miss Rodeo America pageant coming up in November!! Honestly, I really didn’t know what to expect going into the shoot other than Shelia (the MRK coordinator) told me I needed to be sure to get light on her face with no shadows from the hat. That much I could handle!

If you are like me, you enjoy a good rodeo but don’t know much about what is really going on and certainly don’t know about the pageants going on…so I did some research! (Love this day and age of research when it means typing in your query to google!) I asked Shelia how one becomes Miss Rodeo America, and she gave me a great answer…but here it is directly from the Miss Rodeo America website:

These energetic cowgirls are judged in the major categories of personality, appearance, horsemanship and rodeo knowledge & presentation, demonstrating her skills in public speaking, personal interviewing, horsemanship, knowledge of rodeo and general equine science, current event awareness, photogenic qualities, visual poise, and overall professionalism.
The pageant is a glamorous prelude to the famous Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, the PRCA’s year-end championship event also held in Las Vegas in December.

Shelia said they spend a solid week with the judges and go through so much to make it to the end. Two years ago, Miss Rodeo Kansas won the national crown and I’m thinking Danielle has an excellent chance to do the same! Join with me in wishing her the best of luck at Miss Rodeo America in November!!

Megan|DCHS ‘11

I took yesterday to just hang out with the kids and help them get all ready for their first day of school today…which meant I never got a chance to get Megan’s sneak peek up! Today, Maddie and I have been running around and just got home, anxiously waiting to hear how the first day went!

Megan had a great day for pictures with the cool, overcast weather. And she brought along her best friend, Taylor, who is also one of my senior reps. We had a blast trying out new backgrounds…again! They just keep coming in!!!

Ashley and Valeria|DCHS ‘11

These two gorgeous girls came by yesterday afternoon (when they finally found the studio!) and we spent several hours capturing them both. What makes it fun to bring ablong your friends is the great, natural smiles we get because no one can make you laugh like your bestie! Ashley and Valeria have been best friends since 2nd grade…and we spent much of yesterday just laughing and having fun! You two were a blast and I’m so glad you chose me for your senior pictures! Haley|MLHS ‘11

Miss Haley is one of my gorgeous senior reps this year. She came in for her second session yesterday…a gorgeous, rainy, cool morning. I love having this little respite from the heat but it makes me a little too anxious for fall!! Haley and her family just got back from Colorado and the weather was similar to that mountain weather…thanks for bringing it home with you!

I absolutely love it when clients feel like old friends, which is the case here! It makes my “job” so much more rewarding knowing I’m able to forge new friendships and rekindle old ones. And it sounds like we’ll see Haley at least one more time on the blog this fall when we do a session with her little sister…can’t wait to meet her!
